Care and repair: making good things last

A five-minute weekly habit, a yearly deep clean and a repair promise. How to get a decade out of a canvas bag.

Our bags are designed to be used hard for a long time, and the maintenance they need is genuinely small. This is the whole routine, in the order you would actually do it.

The five-minute habit

  • Empty the bag when you finish a project, rather than leaving needles to poke through the lining.
  • Shake it out and wipe the base with a dry cloth before it goes back on the shelf.
  • Store it open, not squashed under something, so the wax does not crease permanently.

The yearly clean

Once a year, brush the canvas with a stiff dry brush, spot clean any marks with cool water and mild soap, let it dry fully away from heat, then re-wax the areas that see the weather. Condition any leather with a neutral balm at the same time. The whole job takes half an hour and adds years.

When something does fail

Seams, zips, snaps and rivets are covered by a lifetime repair promise. Send the piece back, we fix it in the studio, you pay postage one way. We would much rather mend a bag than sell you another one, and roughly one order in forty comes back for exactly that.
